Like the larger Sioux Falls area, Tea has four seasons with humid and hot summers and winters that are cold, windy and snowy. Annual snowfall is around 37 inches. July is the hottest month of the year with an average high temperature of 84 degrees Fahrenheit. The coldest month is January with the lowest temperature around 11 degrees Fahrenheit with highs of 27 degrees.

The Tea Area School District has three elementary schools, a middle school and a high school and serves about 2,000 students. There are no higher education schools in Tea, but students have easy access to colleges and universities in Sioux Falls. Southeast Technical Institute in Sioux Falls is the closest college to Tea.
